Hal Hays Construction, Inc. (HHCI), headquartered in Riverside, CA, stands as a beacon of excellence in the construction industry. Founded in 1991 by Hal Hays after a successful 21-year tenure in his family’s business, HHCI began with a strong foundation in heavy civil construction, forestry services, wildland firefighting, and ecosystem rehabilitation. With a modest start of just a bulldozer, an excavator, and a truck, the firm has grown into a powerhouse, expanding its services to meet the complex needs of the federal, military, government, and private sectors.
By 2001, HHCI had incorporated, marking a significant milestone that would lead to its expansion into a wide array of service areas, including commercial and institutional buildings, site preparation and demolition, emergency response, and utility system construction. The company’s acceptance into the SBA’s 8(a) program in 2002 catalyzed its growth, making HHCI the preeminent 8(a) contractor in the Southwest United States. This period of rapid expansion saw the company extending its reach across nine states, supporting critical national efforts in Homeland Security, Military resilience, and National Parks preservation.
Throughout its journey, HHCI has been praised for its entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and solid commitment to quality and safety. This has been evidenced by numerous awards and recognitions, including the Spirit of the Entrepreneur Award bestowed upon Hal Hays in 2006, and the prestigious designation as the Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year by the US SBA in 2009. Furthermore, Hal was recognized as the California State Small Businessperson of the Year in 2010, a testament to the company’s outstanding service and contribution to the industry.
In 2011, HHCI’s successful graduation from the SBA 8(a) and HUBZone programs marked its entrance into ‘large business’ status, a significant leap that underscored its capacity for handling large-scale, multifaceted projects. The company's prowess in delivering over 1,450 civil and facility projects valued at over $1.0B speaks volumes of its execution capabilities, backed by a talented team of over 182 employees, multiple self-performing crews, and a vast network of pre-qualified subcontractors.
Under the leadership of Kirby Hays, Hal’s son, HHCI has continued to evolve, embracing new opportunities, and expanding its service offerings. Kirby’s tenure has seen the introduction of new divisions like Heritage Trucking, further diversifying HHCI’s capabilities. Today, HHCI is not just recognized for its construction expertise but also for its commitment to community and environmental stewardship, evidenced by numerous safety and sustainability awards.
With a vision rooted in integrity, cooperative spirit, and a commitment to excellence, HHCI remains a distinguished leader in the construction industry, ready to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. We care about corrosion because it is life threatening, costly, harmful to our environment and wasteful. The damage caused by corrosion often has harmful effects to our environment; polluting our air, water and land. Most of the corrosion to our infrastructure is wasteful because it can be prevented. Let us show you how to control corrosion today.
As the West continues to flourish, Teichert and our family of operations will be there when it all happens – as we have been for more than 125 years.
Adolph Teichert immigrated to New York from Germany in 1866, and he was recruited by the California Artificial Stone Paving Company in the 1870’s. His craftsmanship was renowned, and some of his earliest work can still be seen in Golden Gate Park and near the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco. He came to Sacramento to work on laying the sidewalks around the original State Capitol building. He then started his own business in 1887 by building walkways, cellar floors, sidewalks, fencing, and other projects. Adolph was joined in the company by one of his four children, Adolph Jr., and the two of them grew the business. Additionally, they helped establish the Northern California Contractors Association – which later became the Northern California chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.
Over the years, Teichert has grown into a diverse mix of businesses, most notably Teichert Construction and Teichert Materials.
And, with our commitment to our family of employees, high quality of work, strong customer satisfaction, and giving back to the community, Teichert will continue to flourish in the 21st century and beyond.
